I using yours Stripe payment plug-in and I am based in EU so for every transaction I require 3D Secure support

Please tell me which options should I choose :



Enabled (only when 3DS Required)

or

Requested (when 3DS Optional)





first is are Enabled and Required, second is Requested and Optional

I using yours Stripe payment plug-in and I am based in EU so for every transaction I require 3D Secure support

Well, it is true, but in practise, not all banks and financial institutions have enforced Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), where 3D Secure is the most common way of authenticating an online card payment.

So the options we have in our plugin works like this:
  • Enabled (only when 3DS Required)
    3D Secure is enabled only when it is required by the card issuer (a bank or credit card company). If 3D Secure is optional for a card, transactions are processed like regular card payments.
    => the payment flow is frictionless for the customer with a card that does not required 3D Secure.
  • Requested (when 3DS Optional)
    3D Secure is enabled when it is required AND optional by the card issuer.
    => the payment flow adds the 3D Secure layer of protection for the customer with a card that support 3D Secure, even when it is only an option for his/her credit card institution/bank.

Does it make more sense for you? Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Really the choice is on the merchant side. If fraud is happening sometimes, with payment transactions void or charged back, maybe the option Requested (when 3DS Optional) is better? It depends on the products, the market and the customers of each merchant.

After last payments today I get these message from Stripe

Thank you for choosing Stripe! We’re writing because we noticed your account is impacted by a regulatory requirement called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). SCA requires two-factor authentication on many payments in Europe. Payments that are not authenticated are at risk of being declined by your customers’ banks.

Our account has payments (like this one) in live mode using the Charges API, which does not support the authentication requirements of SCA. We recommend reaching out to your plugin developer about using one of our SCA-ready integration paths to avoid more declined European payments.

Please advise thank you.

Also on our website we have a lot of payments stripe plugins, because we offer also taxi and tourist adventures , but for Virtuemart we using your Stripe plugin.
Here is one company I use them a lot, but they don't work with virtuemart. https://www.lesarbresdesign.info/extensions/payage.

Dear Darko,

Thank you for your message.

The Stripe.com notification that you received is almost normal. They warn all their customer that do not have the latest API and implementation, it seems. Once we migrated completely to Payment Intent, we won't be using the Charge API anymore. Please let us know if you have real payments declined because of SCA or 3DS.

Please also, verify that in the Stripe plugin settings, the method Stripe.js is selected, and not Direct Charge. Otherwise, you should fine for the moment. We hope to have a new major release soon.

Functionality

Once you go through the documentation and try out the settings (and don't forget to test it with a "test item", it works like a dream.

Very easy to use, though a little play with the settings may be needed to get an understanding of the system. And you need a stripe account.
